Dermatology
- The itchy pet!
Dr. Keith Hnilica graduated from the
University of Tennessee in 1993. After graduating, Dr. Hnilica completed
a small animal internship and a residency in Dermatology at Auburn University.
He received his Masters of Veterinary Medicine and became a board certified
member of the American College of Veterinary Dermatology in 1997. Dr.
Hnilica was selected into the University of Georgia’s Lilly Teaching Fellowship
Program and in 2007 he completed an MBA program at the University of Tennessee.
Dr. Hnilica was on faculty at the University of Georgia for 3 years and at The
University of Tennessee for 8 years. Dr. Hnilica is the author of itchnot.com,
an author of Small Animal Dermatology; A color Atlas and Therapeutic Guide 2nd
Ed, which has been translated into 7 languages.
In 2009,
Dr, Hnilica left the University to develop a progressive referral and learning
center focusing on cutting-edge medicine with exceptional client service and
the absolute best patient care possible. The Pet Wellness Center and Lakeside

Gary D. Norsworthy, DVM is a Diplomate of
the Feline Practice Category of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners.
He began his career in a feline practice, spent 24 years in a small animal
practice, and now is in a feline practice again. He is the author of numerous
papers and is the editor and primary author of Feline Practice, published in
1993. His second feline textbook, The Feline Patient, was published in 1998 and
has been translated into three languages. He has lectured extensively
throughout the United States and Canada and is in demand as a speaker because
of his understanding of what is useful and practical in private practice. He
was chosen the 1992 Companion Animal Practitioner of the Year by the Texas VMA
and as 1997’s Outstanding Alumnus of the College of Veterinary Medicine of
Texas A&M. He was selected “Speaker of the Year” in the Small Animal and
Veterinary Technician categories for the 1998 American Veterinary Conference. |

Ophthalmology, Section Chief, Small Animal Medicine, VA-MD Regional College of
Veterinary Medicine - Ophthalmology
Dr. J. Phillip Pickett is a professor of ophthalmology
in the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences in the Virginia-Maryland
Regional College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech. He received his DVM
in 1980 from Louisiana State University and completed a residency in veterinary
ophthalmology in 1986 at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Prior to joining
the faculty of the college as an assistant professor in 1988, Pickett was a
clinical assistant professor in Department of Surgical Sciences for the
University of Wisconsin-Madison’s School of Veterinary Medicine. Pickett’s
clinical and research interests include genetic eye disease, glaucoma, equine
corneal disease, and equine uveitis. He is board certified by the American
College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists. Pickett is also a member of the
American Veterinary Medical Association, the Virginia Veterinary Medical
Association, the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists, the American
Society of Veterinary Ophthalmology, the International Society of Veterinary
Ophthalmologists, and the American Animal Hospital Association.
